We'd like to thank owner Bob Schoenborn, (a past club member), for inviting the derby to his business located at;

EVENT DESCRIPTION
(With minor exaggerations)
Throngs of spectators surge forward as riders arrive at 8:30 - 9:00AM with rider registration beginning at 9:00am: Starting times are drawn and first rider rolls out by 10:30 am. The morning and afternoon routes usually are 25 miles each and include 3 checkpoints where riders are greeted by Travelers Club member-volunteers eager to clock them in and hand over the coveted next route card. The goal for the riders are to complete legs of the route within calculated time/distance values. Tension builds as the crowd searches the horizon for signs of the riders return from the morning leg for free hot lunch with coffee or hot chocolate at 11:30 - 12:30. The ride then continues for a second 25 mile route and around 2:00 pm they begin to return to waves of cheering fans who lift the weary riders from their exhausted steeds and carry them inside for the media fanfare they humbly deserve. Scores are calculated and winners are presented their trophies about 2:30 - 3:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there on January 1st 2009

I-CYCLE DERBY History

The first I-Cycle Derby was held on January 1st 1949. Vern Anderson with the Gopher State Motorcycle Club started it all at the parking lot of Smoky Point’ Bar and Grill located at 78th Street and Cedar Ave. So. in Bloomington, Minnesota. Gopher State MC continued to host the event for 5-6 years when the Northern Eagles Cycle Club took over for another 5-6 years.

Beginning in 1962, the businessman/motorcycle enthusiast Bob Hofmeister, personally began sponsoring the event. He brought it to his business; Milhof Steel Products located at Morgan Ave. So. & West Old Shakopee Rd. in Bloomington, MN,
Beginning 1986 the AMA began requiring all sanctioned Road Ride events to be hosted by a AMA Chartered Club. As Bob was (and still remains) a member of Travelers Motorcycle Club, he invited Travelers to become the official host. Since then, Travelers Motorcycle Club and Bob Hofmeister/Faribault Harley Davidson have hosted the Derby.

On January 1st 2002, after 39 years at Milhof Steel, the Derby’s home was moved to Chief’s Towing Service Located at 86th St. & Harriet Ave. So. Bloomington, MN. where the Travelers Motorcycle Club and Bob Hofmeister/Faribault Harley Davidson continues to host the event.
